Hello everyone! Here’s one of my favorite country songs that I’ll discuss in Episode 2 of Crosby’s 9 Country. It’s called “Livin’ the Dream” by Drake White. Crosby’s 9 Country – where we look at English through the eyes of country music.

“Anything goes” means that there aren’t any rules for the way people act or dress or think. In other words, anything is acceptable. What do you think? Have we reached a time when anything goes?

EPISODE 98: "QUICK FIXES AND SILVER BULLETS"
Silver bullet = an immediate, effective solution to a problem or difficulty…that almost never exists. There isn’t a silver bullet when it comes to learning English.

EPISODE 97:"READY FOR A RETREAT?
A retreat = a peaceful, private place for meditation, study or relaxation. I’m ready for a retreat!

EPISODE 96: "SUPER BOWL HYPE"
To live up to = to be as good as what was promised or expected. What do you think? Did this year’s Super Bowl live up to the hype? Does it ever live up to it?

EPISODE 95: "LABELING PEOPLE AND PRODUCTS"
To label (somebody) as = to assign a category or characterization to somebody. > John’s labeled as unfriendly simply because he’s shy.

EPISODE 94: "THE NEW WAVE"
To ride the wave = to enjoy the success or advantage of a (brief) period of time. > The novelist wrote a bestseller and rode the wave of fame and fortune.

EPISODE 93: "THE FORMER, NOT THE LATTER"
“Former” references the first of two things and “latter” the second. “Carrot” and “carat” are pronounced exactly the same. The former is a vegetable and the latter is a unit of measurement.

EPISODE 92: "BACK IN THE SADDLE"
“Back in the saddle” = when you return to your typical routine after a break.
Now that the holidays are over, I’m sure that you’re back in the saddle and ready to learn more English.
