Sunday July 15th, 2018 The Unity Principles tell us that God represents one power and presence, that we’re inherently good, and that we all contain sparks of Divinity. It tells us that our thoughts - which include our ego’s way of identifying ourselves - have a generative power that creates the life we lead, as we engage our spiritual principles in our thoughts, words and actions. One of the most unacknowledged forces undermining our capacity to embody the Unity Principles is the fragmentation of our human capacities - our bodies, our hearts, our minds, and our Souls. While there are many roots to this problem, one of the most insidious concerns how we identify ourselves, especially regarding gender. The film that has inspired this conversation is called The Mask You Live in, produced and directed by Jennifer Siebold Newsom, which explores how our culture's narrow definition of masculinity is harming our boys, men and society at large, looking at what we might do about it. As basic human emotions such as compassion, nurturing, vulnerability and empathy have become primarily identified as "feminine" emotions, the ramifications have led to devastating developments that can be connected to our culture’s obsessions with gun violence, hyper militarism, abuse of women, and the rampant porn industry, deeply in conflict with Unity’s beloved principles.
Join Emmy award-winning composer/speaker Gary Malkin as he shares his particular perspective on this subject, and how specifically the arts – and the healing power of beauty itself – can help us reclaim our identities as whole, Divine human beings, reflective of the Love that is at the center of all life.
