The Voice of TRUTH from the DIVINITY IN OUR HEART has delivered to us a MESSAGE inside the prison in our pit, and that message SETS US FREE because it changes the lens that has driven the thoughts that have kept us in a cycle of bondage.
This message shatters our prison bars by giving us a NEW LENS, and with this new lens we survey the landscape of our pit and find that an entirely NEW POSSIBILITY has opened up to us.
A NEW POSSIBILITY…
with NEW POWER…
to walk a NEW PATH…
out of our PIT.
At this point we turn back to our heart to seek the DIRECTION and DIRECTIVE within us.
And then we get to CHOOSE.
There is no perfect path. There is simply the path that our heart DESIRES and DIRECTS, that we get to CHOOSE.
Here are the two poems I referenced in this episode. Henley wrote his poem in the infirmary recovering from foot surgery on his right leg after his left had been amputated years before. I wrote my poem while recovering from surgery on my left Achilles tendon. Interesting similarites:
Invictus
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
William Ernest Henley, 1873
Prisons
Prisons all around me,
Prisons calling to break free.
If I do not break my prisons,
Who will rescue me?
“No one” says the prison
“No one’s coming to set you free.”
“If you want to break out of prison”
“You must find the lock and key.”
“Fuck you and fuck your prison”
I answer violently.
“Fuck You and fuck this life,
I didn’t choose this difficulty.”
“Not true” says the Voice in my heart.
“Walk with Me so you can see.”
Then all the thoughts come flooding,
All the years, all the choices to be.
As my life comes crashing inward,
No more finger pointing at Thee.
For now I see, now I realize,
These prisons are just me.
But now I see, now I realize,
I am the lock and key.
