Today's first guest is the unstoppable Callie Jayne, Founder and Executive Director of Rise Up Kingston, https://riseupkingston.org/, a grassroots organization led by those experiencing racism, classism, and gender oppression on a daily basis, building a Kingston economy that meets all of our social and environmental needs. Because Callie is such an informed activist, we dove into many deep subjects like "racialized capitalism," the source and real world problems stemming from wealth inequality, why reparations are needed and the work Rise Up Kingston is doing around their Police Accountability Platform. As part of TMI's Black Stories Matter, Callie recently shared a personal story of overcoming an addiction to crack. We talk about how telling this story was an important message around de-stigmatizing drug addictions. She shares what it's like being a Mom to two fabulous daughters, always being sure to include the perspectives of those who don't have the same privileges she shares working for herself. As a recent recipient of an Elias Foundation Fellowship, Callie is going to continue her self-care dancing regiment by hopefully organizing large dance parties for everyone to shake things out. Tune in to her radio show, Night Rise, Wednesdays from 9-12pm on Radio Kingston. You can guarantee she'll be dancing as she's spinning her tunes.
Today's second guest, Summer Corrie, is the founder of Living Life Allowed, the container for all she does, massage therapy, nia instructing and oil slinging. Summer's infectious personality really does bring light to the spaces she fills. As someone who is on a self love mission, she shares how she's learning what love really is and the ups and downs of her journey from feeling insecure and needing the support of a partner or loved one to being brave and honest enough with herself to acknowledge that she was living her real truth eventually teaching her how to care for herself. Summer shares why she got into Nia movement and the joy it brings her to both be in her body and share the experience with others. You can book a massage with Summer here, or find her teaching Nia at Whole Sky Yoga or Stone Ridge Healing Arts Center. She's also doing a special event coming up on Transforming Through Transitions on July 14th at Stone Wave Yoga, more details can be found here -> https://www.facebook.com/events/434515917316138/ Be sure to catch her Sunday's with Summer weekly dose of sunshine via her Facebook page, Sunday's at 8:30am Eastern.
