The chillcast with Anji Bee
Los Angeles born Anji Bee has spent the better part of her life immersed in music. Beginning in Junior High School, she founded, produced, and distributed a series of music ‘zines, writing features and reviews, as well as handling the design and layout. She also spent 3 years in college radio, hosting shows and working in station management — including a run as Music Director — at the notoriously avant-garde KUCI 88.9 fm.
Anji has contributed lyrics and vocals to a number of bands over the years, but joining forces with Ryan Lum in 1999 as Lovespirals has proven the most lasting. The duo have produced 3 full-length albums, several EPs, and many compilation-only tracks and their music has been featured internationally on network and cable television including: MTV, Vh1, ETV, The WB/CW Network, and The Oprah Winfrey Show.
In January 2000, Anji created a Live365 Internet station called The Lovely Ladies of Electronica. By 2005, it had expanded into Chillcuts Radio tying it into the launch of Lovespirals’ label, Chillcuts. The station is currently called Chillcast Radio, and is accessible to paid members of the site. In 2005 Anji also initiated the Chillin’ with Lovespirals podcast, a talk show co-hosted by bandmate, Ryan.
By January 2006, Anji had begun The Chillcast with Anji Bee, which was soon picked up by Mevio (formerly known as PodShow) on the recommendation of company founder, Adam Curry, and award winning podcaster, C.C. Chapman. In September, Anji began her first video show, the Anji Bee Vidcast. In December Anji joined forces with Karla and Karen from Rumor Girls to create the ShowGirls podcast, along with Cali Lewis from Geekbrief TV, Share from Rock ‘n’ Roll TV, KFC from the Podchick podcast and SoccerGirl from SoccerGirl Incorporated plus special guests Natalie Del Conte and Amy Mac.
From January to April 2007, The Chillcast was part of Adam Curry’s Podshow on Sirius Stars 102. From February to April, Anji produced the Chillcast spin-off show, Lovely Ladies, celebrating the female voice. From March to May, she created the Unwind podcast for TylenolPM. From April to July, Anji guest hosted the radio program, Atmosphere 69, for Mix96 in Canada. In September, she accepted a Podcast Award for ShowGirls at the 3rd annual New Media Expo. October saw the release of Lovespirals’ 3rd album, Long Way From Home, as well as their debut live performance in Second Life. In November, Anji gave her first live talk in Second Life, for Blogger and Podcaster Magazine. And December saw the launch of The Chillcast Video Edition with the debut episode receiving over 200,000 requests. Also in December, Anji collaborated with Mark Yoshimoto Nemmcoff on a song for his comedic audiobook, Pussy: The Musical.
Anji has continued her non-stop creative pace in 2008, contributing vocals to Chandeen’s Teenage Poetry CD, the CABACA project spearheaded by MoShang, and The Grooveblaster’s second album, Cities, Streets, and Bebop Nights as well as collaborating on podcasts including Pod5 Idol, Music Remyx, Color Him Father, Cupid’s Hunt, Get Up and Vote!, Reaching for Lucidity Vidcast, and Accident Hash: For The Troops, and overseeing the Peace Love Productions remix contest for Lovespirals’ second album single, “This Truth,” as well as releasing an EP of the winning remixes, and working with Loverush Digital on a second EP of remixes on their label. She has also begun writing and recording new material with partner, Ryan Lum, for Lovespirals 4th album, and continued to create The Chillcast, Chillcast Video, and Chillin’ with Lovespirals episodes on a regular basis.
