I am here with Karen, a pet care consultant expert. She has been a pet care consultant for several years and has clients in Arizona, California and Michigan. She specializes with smaller dogs such as Chihuahuas and terriers. Hi Karen, thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to be here today. Karen: Hi Courtney, thank you for having me. I look forward to sharing what pet consciousness care might look for you and your listeners. Courtney: Great. Now Karen, what was your background before doing this work? Karen: If you can believe it I worked for a very large technology company. I was a technology nerd when IT first started on the scene back in 1999. Courtney: Wow, that’s interesting. So what inspired to focus on researching and educating dog owners and lovers on pet consciousness? Karen: I discovered that pet care was a passion when I rescued my dog Perty Lou in 2007. When my partner and I decided to go on vacation, we took her to a boarding place, which was very stressful for all of us. At that point we decided to hire a pet caregiver to visit our home and take care of her and our house for the next vacation. It was a match made in heaven. Knowing that she was in the safety and comfort of her own home and we were happy getting daily updates, it was priceless for us. After my partner and I split up, Perty moved out of state and that’s when I made the choice to provide the same type of care for other pet owners of pet care services knowing how much it meant to me. I got the opportunity to love on animals and inject consciousness into their space as well as their pet owners. Courtney: I am curious, what are the top three keys to dog owners creating healthy relationships with their dogs? Karen: I would consider myself a mentee of Cesar Millan. Cesar Millan’s strategy if you will teaches rules, boundaries and limitations. For me, learning dog psychology and honoring how a dog actually thinks in pack behavior is really paramount for removing any type of issue or constraint you might run into with your dogs. Some basic examples would be when someone comes to your home, there’s no touching, no talking, no eye contact with your animal until the humans set the stage of we’re the pack leaders, we’re in charge, we’re going to honor you as a dog. The walk is also very key. It is the first thing that I do when I visit a home and do a consultation – is I immediately connect with the dog and take it out on a walk to establish a relationship. Then also making sure that you understand in addition to that that there’s a process. Dogs walk first. The reason they are walking is because they are starting their hunt – in their minds the hunt. Then when you return, you feed them. They get rewarded, they’ve got their kill, if you will, in kibble. Then you are able to play with them and honor them and love them in that regard. Walk, feed, play. Courtney: When do you recommend that a dog owner and dog would benefit from individualized training? Karen: One thing I have noticed in my research is that training needs or desires are typically triggered by an event or something that had occurred whether it’s a dogfight or maybe they got lost. Something happened that caused the pet owner to say, “Ok, I need some help here. I am not connecting on a level that I want to be able to connect with my animal.” Typically it is triggered by an occurrence. It really can occur at anytime. If people want to be proactive and really learn psychology and learn consciousness care for their animal, I recommend it at anytime. Certainly at puppy stage, getting them into obedience school, getting them socialized once their shots and all of that have been behind them is also key to help feed their pack mentality. Just like humans, we’re pack animals, dogs are certainly pack animals. At anytime it will be beneficial. Courtney: Great. Thank you for that. I am aware that you are going to be traveling soon and I am very excited to hear more about your adventures. Can you share more about your upcoming research and travel? Karen: Absolutely. I will be traveling globally for the next several months meeting pet owners around the world and really taking this research to the next level, which is determining is consciousness and raising consciousness effective and can it be measured. Meeting owners in other countries, especially countries that don’t speak English will really give me that opportunity to discover if consciousness and energy and frequency are the true indications or indicators of change. An example will be going to South America and meeting pet owners and requesting to walk their dog or teach them how to walk their dog. Have that struggle of a language but really not have a struggle at all when it comes to consciousness and having the dog really respond to commands and requests knowing it is in not in its language. I am excited to find out if that’s true to form as I think it is. My hypothesis is that it doesn’t matter what the human language is, it only matters your consciousness and your energy. That’s what an animal will follow or respond to. Courtney: Fantastic. That sounds like that will be an incredible experience and I love that you’re going to be traveling abroad and going beyond languages to meet new dogs all over the world. Thank you so much for taking the time to share more about your work and we’re looking forward to hearing about your adventures in another interview in the future. Karen: Absolutely. I will back in October for a quick update. Courtney: Excellent.
