LIfe Lessons welcomes author Diane Dreher. Her two wonderful mentors in my life were Stanley Stewart, my English professor at UC Riverside, the first person who “saw” me, recognizing my passion for literature, and encouraging me to go to graduate school; and Elizabeth Moran, the first woman tenured at Santa Clara University, who became a mentor, role model, and dear friend, showing me the way when I was a young professor.
My book, Your Personal Renaissance: 12 Steps to FindingYour Life’s True Calling (Da Capo Press), tells how to find and become a mentor, how to cultivate our own mentoring community today. The book draws upon insights from Renaissance artists, writers, scientists, and saints who were inspired and guided by mentors and whose examples have become virtual mentors to many others through the years.
