The Gemara comments in Masechet Megillah (29), “Come and see how beloved the Jewish people are to Hashem! Even when they go into exile, Hashem goes there with them.” Similarly, the Zohar writes that when Yaakov and his family went to Egypt, Hashem called to all the heavenly hosts and proclaimed, “Come, we are going down with them.” And although Beneh Yisrael experienced pain and hardship, Hashem was with them at every step of the way. ???? ????? ???????? – this promise, that Hashem would always be with us, is what has kept us together as a nation throughout the generations. No matter how dark the situation is, no matter how difficult the circumstances are, we must always know that everything can change in but an instant. The Hafetz Haim cites the Rokeah as noting that every Jew in Egypt was forced to produce 400 bricks each day. They were tortured and tormented, and it seemed it would never end. Nobody would have imagined during those years of suffering and humiliation that the nation would one day leave Egypt ??? ??? – with pride, making a mockery of Egypt. Nobody could have dreamt that Pharaoh himself would arise in the middle of the night to urge the nation to leave, and that fifty days later they would achieve a level of prophecy that exceeded that of all the prophets combined. Hashem demonstrated how He could raise us from the lowest depths to the greatest heights. ?????? ???? ????? ??????? ?? ??????. The pasuk says in Tehillim, ??? ????? ?? ?' – we must always put our hope in Hashem, trusting that He can help us – ?? ?? ?' ???? ????? ??? ???? – because Hashem is full of kindness and has many ways of bringing our salvation. Sometimes people feel too ashamed to appeal to Hashem for help, recognizing their shortcomings and the sins which they have committed. We need to remember that when Beneh Yisrael were in Egypt, they fell to the 49 th level of impurity, and yet even then Hashem called them ??? ????? – His beloved firstborn son. The Midrash relates that when Moshe told Beneh Yisrael that they would soon be redeemed, they asked how this could happen given that they have no good deeds to their credit. Moshe replied, ????? ???? ???????? ???? ???? ??????? ????? – “Since He wants to redeem you, He does not look upon your evil deeds.” As the pasuk states, ???? ???? ?? ????? ??? ???????? – Hashem helps us despite our sins. His love for us is not dependent upon our conduct. And therefore every single one of us, no matter what he has done or how difficult his situation us, should always turn to Hashem and beg for His assistance. It’s never too late. Somebody gave a mashal of an unmarried girl who was getting older, and reached the point where she was willing to try anything to get married. Somebody suggested to her a certain boy who lived in Australia and was not interested in moving. Feeling desperate, the girl decided to fly across the globe to meet this boy in Australia. It became clear very quickly that this was not a suitable match. She arrived back in the US physically and emotionally drained, thinking in her mind that there was no hope, and she would never get married. Then, suddenly, a shadchan called and told her that a boy she had dated seven years earlier, and to whom she almost became engaged, would like to go out with her again. The shadchan said that the boy realized he had made a mistake when he broke off the relationship, and now wanted to give it another try. The girl had been thinking about this boy every day, imagining what it would have been like if she had married him. Now she was being given another opportunity. Filled with hope, she went out with the boy, and within several weeks they were engaged. ????? ?' ???? ???. Everything can change in but the blink of an eye. We must always feel that ???? ??? ???? – Hashem can always help and is always with us. Our job is to remain hopeful, and His job is to bring us the salvation we need.
