A mostly dryand tranquil weather pattern returns over the weekend. Anisolated shower or two is possible Sunday. Midweek next week, acold front will bring us our next best chance for morewidespread precipitation. Temperatures will moderate back tonear seasonable levels through early next week before returningto cooler than normal levels later next week.

The Short Eventful Marriage of Henry and Eliza Vrooman

On April 15th, 1842, Henry A. Vrooman, a forty-one-year-old farmer living in West Charlton, Saratoga County, passed away in his home near the intersection of what is now Eastern Avenue and Sacandaga Road. He was laid to rest in the nearby West Glenville Cemetery. Only eight months earlier he had married forty-year-old Eliza McClelland, a widow with two children from nearby Blue Corners on the western edge of the Town of Charlton. It was a roller-coaster eight months.

Prior to the construction of the Erie Canal, Durham boats were the primary cargo boats of the region’s inland waterways. These boats could transport more than 20 tons of raw materials and finished goods along shallow rivers like the Mohawk.
